Every time I have been to Paris I’ve stayed in a hotel. Relatively speaking hotels are cheap in France, there are lots of chains for all price ranges. But this means that the hotel turns out to be very bland. This can be very disappointing as you could be anywhere. You stay in a boring room where the only clue you are in Paris is the pictures on the wall. And what’s worse, breakfast is continental breakfast from a buffet that is equally anonymous and nothing like the quality you should be getting in the country of the baguette.

Sometimes it has been a real Parisian hotel with quirky rooms but my son however came up with a much better idea.

He was going to Paris with four friends, why not rent an apartment? He simply did a search on Google and contacted ten or so which were rented out directly by their owners. Even though he wrote in French, they replied in English so don’t worry about the language. I also have to say that he did this just a few days before they went, there are so many possibilities that it is possible for that last minute weekend break.
He found a great place overlooking the Pere Lachaise Cemetery. Remember, Paris is small and the Metro so good that you don’t have to worry about location so much.

The flat turned out to have so many advantages:
- It was cheap. The rental divided by five was half the price of a hotel.
- It gave his friends a real feeling of what’s it’s like to live in Paris. This was a flat in a typical Parisian building renovated with taste and every modern appliance.
- The owners had prepared a welcome pack about the local area, the local shops and restaurants. It was not a big hotel taking commission on sales of show tickets to tourists. It was the places they like to go to. They were also on hand with ideas and suggestions.
- Everything for breakfast, except the bread, was provided. They even recommended where to go buy your croissants and baguette though!

All five of them appreciated it so much that I will give you the website: www.petite-roquette.com/indexen.htm

Even if you don’t stay here it will give you a good idea of what you can find.
